It may well be me but haven't we been receiving the monthly quality roll up and the security updates separately to date?

Isn't this the first time they've issued both together?

It just seems odd to me - I'm only going to install the security one.
There have been two separate updates for the past 5 or 6 months now. The monthly rollups also include the security updates.

Nothing has changed this month though. Still a rollup and a Security-only update.

The Security-Only Rollup contains the MS CPU Blocker (just like the Monthly Rollup).

Don't install it, if you have a new AMD or Intel CPU!

Given that MS is now including garbage in the Security-Only Rollups, it seems that it is no longer safe to manually update W7 using these updates.

What does the MS CPU blocker block?

Not sure which generation it starts with, either 5th or 6th generation Skylake or later. It'll block any update checks on those CPU's and newer AMD CPU's. When you run a check for updates on 7 or 8.1, it'll just come back with an error stating Unsupported Hardware.

I'm sticking with Haswell for the time being, it does everything I need for now. Anyone running newer CPU's and not using Windows 10 won't be able to get any future updates if they install this months Rollup or Security-only update.

    Hi,
When MS said they were simplifying the updating issue they were not kidding :)

Thanks! I won't be upgrading any higher than Haswell-e.

So an update that blocks all future updates will be fixed by a future update.

Hmm, anyone else see a possible problem here...?

Afaik it is to prevent win7 users from having Intel 7th-gen processors aka Kaby Lake and AMD Zen/Ryzen aka Bristol Ridge.

I believe at one stage MS were intending to block 7 from Skylake, but they appear to have backed down on that.
