I used to recommend PCs to friends but I now recommend that they get Macs.
It's a beautiful looking device, I can definitely see the appeal of them. Although, I wouldn't like to take it apart to try and fix/replace something.

You're welcome, and please slow down, your reading conjecture into what I wrote, nowhere did I state that MS was blocking ddr4 only the use of skylake-s and ddr4 that would cause the block. So no, their not blocking ddr4 ram and it is just some of the latest 6th gen cpu's that they are blocking.

If I may try to clear the muddied waters. What I read but still unable to find is, it is the combination of ddr4 and skylake-s that will create the block.

    • If for example you run ddr3 and skylake-s you won't be blocked.

    • If you run ddr4 and any other 5th gen cpu you won't be blocked.

    • Again, nothing that I have found indicates that MS is blocking any ddr4 ram.
Thanks for clearing that up Anak.

I did think that would be a bit of a stretch too far, even for MS!

Think I'll take the plunge and get the 6600k, keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best in future. If it gets blocked somewhere down the road, then I'll have to look for an alternative OS to install.

Went PC shopping with my brother yesterday. He had every intention of buying a Windows laptop. Ended up buying a Mac! I had a play around with it while setting it up and came home considering one myself! I'd miss building my own PC though.

I still have loads of Retail versions of 7 and 8.1 so I've just got to make sure the chip I buy for my next build won't be blocked by MS. I always get a good few years out of my builds. I've never felt the need to upgrade everything regularly.
    Hi,
You can run win-7 on a mac just need to use boot camp I hear
Kind of tough to build a laptop though so off the rack we go

I only use a notebook when I'm traveling or if my desktop is down for repairs or upgrades so the three I have will easily outlast Win 7.

I just installed the April RollUp on the system in My specs and it went quick and smooth.
Now both of my systems have the RollUp installed without any problems so far.
