Office 2007 approaching end of extended support

Summary

Office 2007 reaches the end of its support lifecycle this year, meaning there will be no new security updates, non-security updates, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates. Customers who are using Office 2007 products and services should start planning to move to Office 365 or upgrade to supported versions of Office products and services, such as Office 2016.

More Information

The following Office 2007 products are approaching the end of extended support:

(see table at source)

Microsoft recommends that customers migrate to current product versions before the support end dates. This lets them take advantage of the latest product innovations and ensure uninterrupted support from Microsoft.

We encourage customers to evaluate transitioning to Office 365 with the help of their Microsoft representatives or technology partner.

I still have Office 2007 running on 3 PCs and I guess the end of support only refers to security updates. I've never understood why security updates has always been an issue - a question for the security experts. I use Word, Excel & PowerPoint - all do a reasonable job. I think Office 2007 is limited for technical documents requiring complex equations.

I'll move to Office 2016+ when I move to Windows 10. I hate the Office 365 model of annual subscriptions.

Been using Office 2007 since 2009 and it's still working well. Have installed LibreOffice alongside it and will probably switch to that after the Office EOL. It probably won't fulfill every Office users needs, but for the features I use LibreOffice seems to be enough.

As I install on multiple systems I'm looking more into free software lately. And I don't particularly like the subscription model that most paid software seems to be switching to these days.

I've been using Libre Office for a few months now - it's getting easier to use, since I've been using it for a while. I have found it to be a quality office suite. I have used Writer and Calc, but no other components of Libre Office.
