Hackers spread hidden malware to 2.7 million people through CCleaner

I run 32-bit Win 7 and as soon as I found out this news, I ran a Malwarebytes scan and an Avast virus scan.
All Malwarebytes found was two Registry values that were connected to the malware, but no malware itself.
Avast found nothing out of the ordinary at all.
I'm satisfied that there's nothing unwanted on my PC.

All the newsletters I received said that Avast had grabbed it before it affected anyone, and that it was only 32-bit systems with the latest CC update. I had neither. In 20 years of computing, I've had only one virus, and cured it with a tool from my A-V company at that time. Yes, I've had a few Trojans, and wiped them out easily. Wiping all your systems immediately is absurd as a first choice. I have 4, and it would take a month to set up each one again.

If all these companies who are breached had to pay heavy fines, they'd up their security. Instead they just say "sorry" and return to business-as-usual. Equifax knew about the virus long before they revealed it. Then there are all the major retailers who have been hacked. The hospitals... the Federal Personnel Dept....on and on...
