    Improvements and fixes

This security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of update KB4041686(released October 17, 2017) and resolves the following issues:

    • Addressed issue where applications based on the Microsoft JET Database Engine (Microsoft Access 2007 and older or non-Microsoft applications) fail when creating or opening Microsoft Excel .xls files. The error message is: “Unexpected error from external database driver (1). (Microsoft JET Database Engine)".
    • Security updates to Microsoft Windows Search Component, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows kernel-mode drivers, Windows Media Player, and Windows kernel.

For more information about the resolved security vulnerabilities, see the Security Update Guide.

    Known issues in this update

    Symptom
After installing KB4041681, package users may see an error dialog that indicates that an application exception has occurred when closing some applications. This can affect applications that use mshtml.dll to load web content. The failure only occurs when a process is already shutting down, and doesn't affect application functionality.

    Workaround
]Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

    Symptom
After installing this KB, Internet Explorer 11 users who use SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) may not be able to scroll through a drop-down menu using the scroll bar.

    Workaround
Using the scroll wheel on a mouse works as expected. This issue only applies to document mode 11, so attempting to load the page with document mode 10 may work around the issue.
To change the document mode in Internet Explorer 11:

    1. Select F12.
    2. Select the Emulation tab.
    3. On the Document modemenu, select 10. The page will reload in the new document mode.

Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

Has anyone noticed a couple of the old windows 10 upgrade patches in the last couple of months? I've got KB2952664 in the most recent updates.

"This update performs diagnostics on the Windows systems that participate in the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program. The diagnostics evaluate the compatibility status of the Windows ecosystem, and help Microsoft to ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows. There is no GWX or upgrade functionality contained in this update. "

That link is one from 2016 whereas the one I linked to is current - all GWX type upgrade components were removed from updates at the end of the free upgrade offer
