You could try just the March update. If no issues, then no need to worry about the others.

    Hi Shawn,

It's been my understanding since late 2016 that if one chooses to go down the Security-only update path then every months have to be installed as they're not Cumulative and don't necessarily replace each other. If I were to miss say Feb then install March then run the MS Baseline Security Analyzer it would still show me as missing Critical updates from February.

I think it's only the Cumulative rollups where you only have to install the latest rollup. Not 100% sure on all the updates surrounding the Spectre/Meltdown fixes though.

    So....should we or shouldn't we?
Lady F. ...the trouble you ran into intrigues me, are you running Intel or AMD? I'm AMD, but last month there was that false positive and in explorer, the WU dialogue, I only have KB4088875, the rollup, and the Malicious Software removal tool, the security only update is missing from the list and they tried sneaking in that KB2952664 again for the umpteenth time, so I wound up hiding it ..again.

I'm Intel (a misnomer, if I ever saw one). The machine is a Sandy Bridge-E. I haven't updated my current notebook since I last used it in December; I shudder to think of the performance hit that machine would take.

I don't do the rollups, only the security only updates and any other non-OS updates.

KB 2952664 is harmless for now (although I also hide the misbegotten thing) but I wouldn't be surprised if MS revives it late in 2019 to "provide a convenient way for users to upgrade to Win 10" (or whatever they decide to call it by then).

I'm going to wait until the weekend, to see if the security only update shows up.

It's already available. The Security-only updates have to be installed manually, they're not pushed through Windows Update.

I've been installing each months manually on both 7 & 8.1. It would have been much easier from day one if MS had chosen to make the Security-only updates cumulative from day one, then we would only need to install the latest and be up to date security wise. Unfortunately, we never got that option.

I'm glad they didn't. January's pretty much wrecked my computer.

It's ironic that I said "from day ONE" twice there! Either a brainfart caused by my increasing age, or I was subconsciously trying to exercise my disdain!

Sounds nasty Jeannie, what happened? The whole Spectre/Meltdown issue has been a bit of a mess these last couple months. I held off on the January update for a while before I installed it.
