    Buggy Windows 7 Patches - KB4088875 & KB4088878

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018
Shortly after the patch appeared, we started hearing from admins that both the pushed Monthly Rollup and the download-and-manually-install Security-only patch, KB 4088878, were causing problems with IP addresses on servers’ virtual Network Interface Cards (vNICs). After applying the update, the server — and sometimes individual machines — simply dropped off the network because their manual IP addresses had been altered.

    Thanks for the information.

This is why I usually wait several weeks to install updates after initial release. Not worth the hassle, otherwise.

    Macrium Reflect Affected

Maybe it's no accident that these W7 patches are defective.

    Problem

After installing the Windows 7 update patch released on 13th March 2018, 32 bit installations of Macrium Reflect may cause Windows to be unable to restart. The error displayed in the BSOD is:
    pagefault_in_non-paged_area pssnap.sys

We believe that this is related to the Spectre meltdown protection added in the Windows update:

    Affected versions
Note: This affects all versions and editions of Macrium Reflect.up to v7.1. If you are running v6 or earlier then please also follow the steps below.

Windows 10 32 bit installs that have been upgraded from Windows 7 may also received this error.
