They're both dangerous.

Those companies (and any others that are doing the same things) should be crushed.

Google's data collection is not available to influence elections. Facebook's is. In my assessment, that makes Facebook much more dangerous.

Thanks for the reminder, Brink. I've edited post #22 to better convey the point I'm trying to make.

"In May the EU will enact a significant strengthening of the data protection laws in Europe under the General Data Protection Regulation agreement. It is seen as being much tougher than the rules in America where Facebook is headquartered."

I think this is already addressed by the British and Australian intel last year to weaken the system.

Even the Asean-Australia summit happened this month, leaders were still addressing the threat.

I'm pretty sure Facebook has more freedom on selling their gathered information compared to Google.

But Google can control search results, auto suggest terms, ads portrayed based on your search terms and a whole slew of other things like links at the top. Their Youtube sub already censors what is shown. Of course Facebook does the same as well as Twitter.

All three are privacy destroying and controlling in so many ways.

So true. That is the only thing that has kept me alive on FB.
A large chunk of my traffic comes from social media sites and FB is one of them.
