Hi Brink,
I have just Googled this and it appears that this threat goes back as far as Feb-2014, well a variation of it at least!
A well-resourced hacking group is using a previously unknown and unpatched bug in Internet Explorer (IE) to infect Windows PCs with malware.
Researchers at Qihoo 360's Core security unit say an advanced persistent threat (APT) group is using the IE vulnerability on a "global scale", which is being delivered to select targets via malicious Office documents loaded with it calls a "double-kill" vulnerability...

Translate from corporate to human:We recommend customers use Windows 10 and the Microsoft Edge browser for the best protection.
Microsoft at its finest. I am not surprised nor impressed. I'm amazed that people still use Internet Explorer for anything. If it wasn't for different applications using IE (e.g. Skype, Adobe Flash Player installer and many more) this wouldn't be such a problem. We knew about the issue and may or may not fix it, buy our newest products, give us money
For those of us who have been watching....an extremely high % of all MS updates over the past nn years have all been to patch security holes in I.E. And yet, MS has not really "Fixed" it! I.E. is sort of like a Screen Door, with more little holes than anyone can ever fix.
Is it any wonder, that so many of us gave up on I.E. decades ago, and went looking for something that was safer.
I only keep I.E. around for that nasty little web site that just won't work right with any other browser.
And, right now, I can't even name one. Firefox, for instance, in its 60+ upgrades, has become compatible with just about every web site in the WWW.
I just wonder what the EOL of Microsoft will be? Nothing lives forever! Eh?
