Actually, free software can make the creator a lot of money. If they can use that free software to spy on you and gather your information, they can then make money off of your information.

Whilst that can be true, commercial software does it, despite the creators being paid up front.

However that wasn't my point.
The point is that any real product and service you pay for, comes with consumer protections (guarantees, "anti-lemon" laws, etc.) the exception is software.

For example, MS should be facing multiple billions of dollars in lawsuits right now, because of all of their dodgy W10 & W7 updates, "malware-style" dialogue boxes and GWX.

How much money & time have they cost almost every other business in the world (not to mention the thousands if not millions of individual users)?

There's no "incentive" for MS to produce quality code, because they are never punished when they release garbage.

Actually CPUs seem to also be an exception.
If a car is a dud, the car maker has to fix it or replace it at no cost to the consumer.
It seems that Intel and AMD won't be forced to supply us with brand new replacement CPUs that don't have the Spectre & Meltdown hardware "defects".

IoT is going to be a total disaster, because all the manufacturers will claim any issues are software-related so they can't be punished.

It seems the Fed has to step in and set some sort of security standards because the companies sure don't care. IoT is a perfect example. They just slap that together, package it and sell it. No security once so ever. It's the reason why one of the largets DDoS attacks occurred in the first place.

As to Windows 10.. HAHA PT Barnum is often misquoted as saying, "there's a sucker born every minute."

The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades...

Gmail: Sending to "MyAccount.@gmail.com" (with a dot) fails
Hello, I'm using the old Gmail Chat. A long time ago I added my own account to the Chat List so that I'd be able to send myself a message from that list. I had to add a "." (dot) after the User Name; - instead of "MyAccount@gmail.com", "MyAccount.@gmail.com". In the last few days,...
