Have to agree with LF here. MS is too focused on getting everybody on Windows 10. Plus, I don't think they want another XP situation on their hands where users & businesses were still using it years after the EOL. I just can't see MS extending the EOL for 7.
I wouldn't be surprised if they try and cut the EOL for 8.1 early too. I doubt they'll want to support it with such a low market share until 2023.
They wouldn't make as much money if they kept an old OS and just improved it.
MS's racket: they publish faulty OS's before they're perfected, then they send years of updates, but the updates often don't install, then they fix or pull the updates, fix them and send them out again. After a few years, they stop updating, publish a new OS, then start the cycle again. We've been been living with this for 25 years. It's insane.
Therefore I am satisfied with the performance and stability of Windows 7. Also the main theme MS Office which is a good cocktail, Windows 7 and MS 10. By the time the date comes that they will not give more support, there will be another Windows 10 version>?
Brink just posted this recently:
Microsoft offers paid Windows 7 Extended Security Updates to Jan. 2023
Please note that the Paid support will only be available to Volume licence Business customers, which would not be likely to be available to the retail consumer at an affordable price
If it's anything like the XP situation then there will be many people using 7 way past the 16 month EOL. I'll use it for a few more years, along with multiple 7 VMs I have set up, then fully switch over to 8.1 until 2023. After that... I have no idea yet! Perhaps Windows 10 will be something I want to use by then - I'm not optimistic right now though.
