    Sounds like you have bigger security problems that was hiding in the wings than what this update has caused. You should look into it.
    Not sure what you mean.

    I keep my system fully updated with windows security updates, browser and program updates etc.

    I see no evidence of any security issue, only that the SHA-2 algorithm update caused an issue on my system.

    Yes, and it throwed this error:
    "Failed to connect to a windows server. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond."
    Did you check the system event log, If you did what did it say?

    Here's some other areas to check:
    • Check the setting of System Event Notification Service on your computer, make sure it's set to automatic.
    • Reset your Winsock Catalog the instructions are in the first post of the link.
    • Update your video card driver, check to see if it's the latest. I would of pointed you to the drivers list but your System Specs are incomplete.
    • Uninstall the KB2952664 update if you have it installed, it's only a telemetry update sending information back to Microsoft.

    At the very least You should run a SFC /Scannow to make sure you don't have any violations.

    This may be a lot especially if you're gonna get a new machine in July but if you don't have KB4474419 installed by next month you're not gonna receive any updates.

    Thanks for the detailed reply.

    I've searched windowsupdate.log - KB2952664 is not present

    Run an SFC verify only came back
    "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

    Beyond that I don't want to take a risk something will stop working.

    "Any devices without SHA-2 support will not be offered Windows updates after July 2019."
    This should give me plenty of time to upgrade to a new Windows 10 PC. Hopefully your detailed reply will help those hoping to receive updates beyond July 2019 who have problems with the SHA-2 update.

    Thanks again.

    Hi @redfolder

    I've been having a look at this, and have the following suspicion, based on the fact this tends to occur following windows updating - its telemetry based

    In Services is application experince enabled - if so please dissable it
    further if you have this registry key
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Telemetry]
    change the settings to this

    Name = DisableSqmUploader

    Type = REG_DWORD

    Data = 00000001

    This problem has occured for years and no real MS solution has been found
    some have posted that using a restore point and then updating has also cleared it

    Just appeared in my Windows Update list. Haven't installed it yet, as I like to wait for at least a week before installing any MS updates these days.

    I went ahead and did it, plus the security-only, no anomalies yet, just have to reset the firewall permissions again.

    Hi redfolder, you're welcome.

    Not sure what happened, I didn't receive a notification that you, torchwood or BlueGuy had posted or I may have trashed it by mistake.

    torchwood's suggestion is worth a try, there also seems to be telemetry associated problems with windows 10 updates lately.

    My machine is still running okay with the sha-2 update, BlueGuy did you have some custom firewall settings?

    Just TinyWall in addition to Widows Defender, adds more customization, resets were mainly for the function of the HD Homerun tuner, which is a network connected ATSC tuner and the Cliff Watson EPG Project PVR software.

    Okay thanks, wasn't sure if I'd have to be on the lookout for anything.
