Your Firefox extensions are all disabled? That's a bug!

I'm curious why run an outdated non supported browser.

Why not just download the current supported Firefox ESR 60.6.2 .

I have a Windows XP computer that I use now and then for specific software and hasn't seen an internet connection since its EOL.

I think you mean "superior non-junk browser".

W10 has more discovered exploits than XP.
W7 has more than both of them.

As long as you have plenty of verified Backup Images, I wouldn't be surprised to discover that XP is actually much safer, than W7 & W10 (despite the marketing propaganda from MS).

What does your outdated non supported browser / "superior non-junk browser" do that FF ESR 60.6.2 doesn't.

I have no complaints using FF ESR 60.6.2 they all work for what I do which is web search and stream youtube videos and watch movies.

I have over 40 XUL extensions, and I'm fine. I think I should wait another 10 years before switching to Quantum. ;-)
Unless Quantum either becomes as adaptable as the old version, or restores compatibility for XUL extensions, I plan to do the same.

Does that add-on so-called fix on that page you shared not work for you?
Correct, it does not work for me - that's why I posted here again.

Have you tried enabling Studies for a while to try and get your add-ons back?
    "Studies" doesn't exist in 52.9.

You may be SOL as Firefox ESR 52.9 EOL was August 29th 2018 according to this link.
This is why there are so many forks of the Firefox code. Worst case, I'll move to one of them if I have to, but I really want to know what RoWin7 did (or didn't do) that he's not having the same problems.

I found this fix on github for older FF versions.

    ...
I restarted my Firefox (my version is 59.0.3)
I'll look into this, but 52.9 might be too old for this to work.

As I said above, I don't want to lose my XUL extensions; WebExtensions still don't do all the things I want my browser to do.

    .
If you want, I can test it on version 52.9, later tonight on my lab computer. So you don't have to test yourself until you know it's really working on that version?
I'm home again around 10pm swedish time

    Adblock Plus

This QuickFIX worked for me (and helps avoid similar screw-ups):
    #1 disable auto-update for FF and add-ons
    #2 disable studies
#3 go to URL "about:config" and set "xpinstall.signatures.required" to "false"
    #4 close browser
#5 restart and enjoy the old world w/o being remote controlled

PS: make a backup or sys restore point before updating your browser (ideally only manually, as not even FF can be trusted anymore, screwed up by goog/m$ft/etc)

PPS: worth a read: All extensions disabled due to expiration of intermediate signing cert | Hacker News

Sorry, doesn't work. I just installed FF66.0.5 and Adblock Plus fell over again. Additionally, Adblock Plus now has a new category of "non-annoying ads" that it allows by default. Truly pathetic.

It does seem to me that this whole irritating kerfuffle is about putting ads back on our screens whether we want them or not.

The trick with the certificate doesn't work on version 52.9 ESR winXP
The only thing that worked to temporarily get add-ons restarted is via about:config
    change the setting
    xpinstall.signatures.required = true
    to value
    xpinstall.signatures.required = false
when mozilla then publishes the fix change back to value to =true

It's possible to temporary start the add-ons.

    I found this guide
    Code:
    Re-enabling installed extensions

Restarting Firefox will remove any temporarily loaded extensions.

    1. Navigate to about:debugging
    2. Click the 'Load Temporary Add-on' button
    3. Navigate to the .xpi file in your profile directory select it and click Open.
To find your profile directory, go to ☰ > Help > Troubleshooting Information, then look for "Profile folder" in the table. Copy or make note of the full path, which should be something like:
    • Windows: C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{profile id}.default\extensions
    • Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/{profile id}.default/extensions/
    • MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/{profile id}.default/extensions/
From here, the extensions can be found under extensions/. Re-downloading extensions Restarting Firefox will remove any temporarily loaded extensions.
    1. Right click on the 'Add to Firefox' button
    2. Choose 'Save Link As' from the menu
    3. Save the .xpi file somewhere handy
    4. Navigate to about:debugging
    5. Click the 'Load Temporary Add-on' button
    6. Navigate to the .xpi file you downloaded and open it
    For Android
    1. Navigate to about:config
    2. Search for xpinstall.signatures.required
    3. Change the setting to false
    4. Go to Add-ons for Firefox (en-US) and find the extension you want
    5. Tap the 'Add to Firefox' button to install
And the last method is to set the computer clock back to 29 April 2019
