    Adblock Plus now has a new category of "non-annoying ads" that it allows by default. Truly pathetic.
    Yes, it is pathetic, but not exactly new; that "feature" was added to ABP about a year ago. FWIW, I consider tweaking one checkbox in exchange for having one up-to-date extension that works for both pre- and post-Quantum Firefox to be a small price to pay.

    The only thing that worked to temporarily get add-ons restarted is via about:config
    change the setting
    xpinstall.signatures.required = true
    to value
    xpinstall.signatures.required = false
    Hallelujah! This worked!

    Not that it matters now that I have my old Firefox back, but I tried that several days ago, and it didn't work for me because the extensions that were failing were ones that required a restart after installation, and of course restarting uninstalled the extensions again.

    ABP is a resource hog anyway. Switch to Ublock Origin and report back to us.

    For Chrome - this browser is exactly what we are assiduously avoiding by using FF.

    Adblock Plus and its' "non-annoying" ads: I object strongly to the slyness of opt-out without upfront choice. Yes, many programmes use this trick but that doesn't make it honest..

    It's quite clear that we will never be free of sly lies.

    You can use Ublock Origin in either browser, and probably a few others. I use it in FF.

    When ABP is first installed, it loads a Web page with a link to Turn off Acceptable Ads on it, so I don't know how they could be more upfront about it.

    Installed years ago. That non-upfront page didn't exist.

    No, I didn't bother to do upgrade. On installation, It then blocked the ads, which is all I wanted. Adding "features" after installation is sly. So it's gone now. They can earn no more from my machine.

    This has taught me to trust no programme, so monthly checking is a routine.

    I don't think this was aimed at me, but for the record, I'm satisfied with ABP (as long as I can keep Mozilla from disabling it on me).

    Why not just use a different browser?

    Some fixes from Mozilla team by release number:

    Add-ons disabled or failing to install in Firefox | Mozilla Add-ons Blog

    They worked for me on several releases.
