that's right, maxseven. no more new Win7 rollups & updates higher than KB4539601 will be offered to you on WU because "free" extended support for Win7 ended on Jan. 14, 2020 (unless you can find a way to pay for & obtain a valid Win7 ESU license as documented in MS support articles 4497181 & 4522133)

Edit - I installed KB4539601 on my bro's Win7 Sony Vaio laptop and found no problems with it

Thanks, I know about ESU et al but had received the "Preview" after support ended. I've hidden it but maybe I will install it...

isn't these preview updates like betas before the real thing? even with ESU, is it really worth the install?

Which is why I posted in the first place. I too understood that Preview=Beta and so dunno why MS would make a Preview available to us that was not followed-up by a final version.

I think it was pushed to fix the stretch wallpaper issue, which MS borked up in the Jan rollup. It's listed in the "improvements and fixes" section. So, if anyone had that issue then it's probably a good idea to install this preview. If not, then just ignore it.

I haven't installed any of these previews (nor any rollups for that matter) since MS changed to the rollup model. I just installed the Security-only updates.

Well I've always installed the rollups, but never the previews as you.

It hasn't been going-on for that long, what, two years maybe? Anyway thanks fellas, I will leave the damn thing hidden and worry no more about it.

In the meantime fwiw I am happily running 0patch and hoping my $26 bucks a year is being well-spent...!

Starting on January 15, 2020, a full-screen notification will appear that describes the risk of continuing to use Windows 7 Service Pack 1 after it reaches end of support on January 14, 2020. The notification will remain on the screen until you interact with it.
Only if you do not appreciate your inner peace you will willingly install such a file.
