    WD format provides "free" 11% extra storage

    Western Digital says it has developed a technique that provides more usable space out of a given hard drive capacity. Known as Advanced Format, it reduces the amount of overhead for each data sector by pooling together information.

    always knew WD was a great drive maker now I have another reason to love these drives. Hope this works with drives they released this year.

    It won't work with existing WD drives, ones they will release soon at the beginning of the year will have it.

    oh well, I can't complain about HD space anyway. I have 2 USB HDD's and don't use the full space anyway but when I get around to building a desktop I will be looking at WD drives first.

    so should i hold out before i buy a 2tb drive?
    so it should come by the start of next year correct?

    Well it says in the article -


    WD will be rolling out the new 'EARS' variant of the Caviar Green line over the next few weeks
