The beta releases will see an indication of that in the lower right corner of the desktop. If SP2 is seeing a final version then that would no longer be displayed.

I ran the RC1 for Vista for a period of time and then simply waited for the 1/31/07 release about 4 months later. The only disappointment seen with Vista so far is no updated softwares for things like existing tv tuners cards.

You see a Vista driver update while there's a list of problems seen when going to record anything while the original driver works well on 7 along with Vista as far as picture and sound. When 7 comes out I wouldn't expect too much there for 3rd party support besides the few main companies like ATI, NVidia for video and Creative already seeing 7 beta drivers for sound.

The Vista BETA BEFORE RTM was VERY fast. I do not know why the final release was such an old man performance wise.

I ran the RC1 for a period of time where a good number of things like Windows Mail was on the disabled list. Once the finished product was seen a larger number of services were then active then seen using more memory.

With 7 MS took a serious look at the size Windows was growing to be and made the decision to "trim the fat" in order to improve the overall performance of the next and now new version along with the introduction of the MinWin kernel. One thing noticed and presented in one of the new tutorials here was how to speed up the Windows shutdown/restart time. Shut Down -Speed Up

By the time you finish reading page #2 there you'll see how to improve the shutdown time in 3 different versions of Windows!

I'd rather wait a few months from that still to see any other possible bugs resolved before seeing the retail version out too soon and end up being a fiascle. I'm still waiting for the final SP2 for Vista to come out.

Gee? September I'll need a few copies in time for a few birthdays around then. hhhmmm...
    vista sp2 came out already

    And?

Why are you quoting something posted back in February? I've had a Vista SP2 installation running already for the last two months here on the new Virtual PC beta for 7. A clean install of Vista with SP2 on the former Vista drive also saw a backup image made ready to restore at any time.

I thought Steven Sinofsky, MS, declared about a year ago that MinWin was not a component in Win7.
