Problem is that the Government is spending a Truckload of money on this.
They should be spending it on better Healthcare and Schools.

But that is logical. Politics and logic have no business being in the same sentence.

Once this gets going, it'll never end. We will truly live in an Orwellian society then...T_T

Govt. Will do what they want, how they want when they want. I worked for the US Govt. for 10 years with different Cyber/tech divisions of law enforcement. I did things I know where wrong but was asked to do so in the defense of my country and to protect the citizens of America. Cyber crimes happen. No matter if there are filters or computers are built not to be able to show content people that want it will get it! Look at any jail, drugs cell phones etc all make it inside. Here in Florida 2 guards tried(different jails I think) to bring guns to prisoners.

Crimes will happen either on the net or the real world. Stopping piracy, child pictures or what ever will never be 100% effective as someone will always wonder if they can get around it as a challenge and once someone does for good or bad word will spread.

Look at history here the human race has tried to stop many thing, piracy of software or on the oceans, guns, religions etc etc etc and ALL have failed, and the reason is simple where there is free will there will be a way for good or bad. We can't take away free will, at least not yet, so the criminals will commit the crimes while the rest of us try and protect ourselves and our children the best we can and if history has taught me anything it's that most Governments give the largest amount of false sense safety then they do protecting the citizens that elected them in the fist place.

Even if the internet becomes censored digital files will find there way around the world. Its when people start thinking about making filters for our brains that will get me worried and if your a conspiracy person the aliens have already started doing this anyway.

Oh and one last thing, I find it funny how we as in the human race have abused ourselves yet we want to censor out these parts but yet we are told we need to learn from our mistakes, how can we learn from it if we censor it out? how can the doctors help the child if they can't access that info?

Just my opinion seen from a fathers eyes and who has been inside the Govt and outside.

THE Federal Government is pushing ahead with its controversial plan to filter the internet, saying illegal material can be blocked "with 100 per cent accuracy and negligible impact on internet speed"

Government pushes forward with internet filtering | News.com.au
That is a bummer...if that happened in the US I would be outraged
Many of us are outraged; but if the government gets it right and it only blocks "child sex abuse content, bestiality, sexual violence and the detailed instruction of crime and drug use" (quote from article), then I have no problem with it and it should be a good thing. However as an Australian, I am suspect that this 'filter' will open Pandora's box and in years to come we may find all sorts of things blocked. I don't want Australia to become the new North Korea or China of the internet.
Just wait until it is speech and expression that the government doesn't like.

They already don't like it. They just haven't figured out how to stop it without a revolt. You can be sure that they are working on it. This sounds like an excellent first step in that direction. Get things started with something most people despise like child porn. Then later you can start quietly slipping other things onto the list.
