Thanks for that info Slimy.
This week, Microsoft Connect testers received the RTM-Escrow build of Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, Ars has learned. The company is letting testers grab it as a standalone installer package (all languages) as well as slipstreamed versions in English, Spanish, German, French, or Japanese. As always, there are 32-bit, 64-bit, and ia64 versions available, but for some reason Microsoft has not included a patch to allow testing for the release via Windows Update, as it usually does.
For those interested, the build string is "6002.17043.090312-1835" and Microsoft claims the service pack includes 793 individual hotfixes (the official list on TechNet still talks of the RC build). Assuming no more drastic changes, this is the number of patches we can expect to see included in SP2 when it arrives sometime next month.

it's getting quite hard to not believe the 'evil empire conspiracy'.
Had sp2 RC1 installed, perfect. I was quite pleased that the system response and idle processor load where now equal to win 7.
Installed sp2 RTM, my cpu fan sounds like a hairdryer, idle load jumped on the same machine with only change the SP2 version from 8% to 22%
Reboot to win 7, all quiet 3% idle load.
Sorry but no way am i going to believe this is not done to have enough difference between to 2 versions to push people to go over to the dark side.
Update:
Reinstalled SP2 RC Escrow and everything is back to normal. As in cpu idle load equal to windows 7. Well at least it's valid till 2010 we'll see then.
In fact this makes me so angry i'll wait for windows 7 in the wild in a year or so. No way i'm going to pay.

The version i am using (not found this one yet) is fine, boots longer than seven but i don't notice my fans or anything else louder... please pm me links if you have this version.
It works faster than SP1 Expires Mar 2010. Still lots of Disks thrashing about on Boot but after boot the disk activity stops and it performs more like it should have done first time around.
BTW you need to install SP1 first before applying SP2. I'm using the PUBLIC SP2 from the microsoft site (not the one"out in the wild") .
Build 6002 mine says -- note this is VISTA SP2 not Windows 7 to avoid any confusion).
Strange problem I have with VISTA and W7 (restored images to the same disk on the same machine so no "Virtual Machine" " Disk compression / defrag" alterations etc
Identical Software packages installed on each system
VISTA X-64 SP2 "C" drive 35 GB used
Windows 7 X-64 build 7048 19.7GB Used
What gives ?. I can't see any missing features in W7 that I'm using in VISTA.
Both clean installs -- identical software installed and NO tweaks -- just "Bog standard" from the disk installs with Language and Keyborads set to UK English -- so no "Language pack" difference either --in any case I doubt if installing Icelandic or any other language pack on VISTA would add 16 GB after its been installed
(Updating the SP2 build to W7 doesn't cause any problems -- still uses more disk space than the clean W7 install).
Cheers

Hi jimbo, i already have sp2 but an earlier leaked RC. Vista Ultimate x86 SP2 RC 6002.16670.
Just got this one (thanks for link @pm).
But yes the disk space thing stops me using vista on my old 40gb laptop, i use 7 on laptop and vista|7 on desktop.
I used: Version 6002.17506.090313-1730 codeSign 090316
Now i reuse the RC Escrow and will wait till it expires. Win 7 performs well but is still not 1/1 compatible with Vista.
If in 2010 the price is anywhere near reasonable (max 100 euro) i'll consider buying it. If not i'll go to the dark side. I hate being suckered as much as the next guy.
