Worldwide average is around 35%, and that's why it is a big problem: about one third of all installed PC software is pirated, not legal.

I can believe 35% for various software that runs on Windows, but that seems like a high percentage for the operating system itself.
that is because it is not anywhere near that high, regardless of what any report claims.

I fail to understand why it is necessary to periodically check for anything other than the intial validation...assuming that it is profiecient at detecting any problems. If the installation is geniune, then why would anyone change that by installing a bogus system to replace it? Despite the tact of attempting to convince everyone that they are only protecting their customers and partners, who they are really protecting is themselves. This in itself is not bad, but I do not trust anything that continues to run in this fashion, because I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law. If I'm later told by some bot that what I have paid for and know is genuine, is fake, and it cripples my system, I'm not going to be a happy camper, even if it can be rectified later.

I think that the re-checking will be due to the ever changing status of hacks and cracks for the operating system.

The change that will lead that an operating system being flagged as pirated will not be because the user has cracked a previously legitimate copy but that the database of known exploits will have been updated.

Any system will pass validation until the actual exploit in use is checked for, the re-checking merely allows for the new variants after the initial check to be found

And while it is not established in stone that piracy really hurts the targeted sales of the company, the company itself through these tactics becomes worse than the pirates. It is highway robbery anyway you look at it. The difference is one is legal and the other is not.
Remember the problems that arose with SecuRom and all the validation issues the gamers have/had to gripe about making games unplayable, and yes this is still an occurring problem with having to renew licenses after so many installs or the installed security device that you can not remove from your system is making a game completely uninstallable. That's an unjustifiable crockery! These are the types of issues that need to be addressed before they issue any type of anti measures, just because of the problems that arise to the legit people in the world. Like it was stated earlier if and when my legit copy gets marked because of a bot telling me it's an illegal copy I too am going to be a very unhappy camper. P.S. Torrents and P2P networks can be a very reliable source for free license music and free license software trades amongst everyone in the world, or just you and a friend to transfer files. And yes, before you think it aloud, there are a lot of people that do use them for illegal activities but not all do. So there for why discriminate the product just for how some tend to use it?
And I forgot to mention, I still have SecuRom files from my Vista installation on my pc that I can not get removed.

SecurROM is trash, they block Process Explorer from running while your playing games and they tried to block my tool ProcessHacker (albeit without success) and I've received some nasty e-mails from them about their attempts to block PH when I question them about it

Honestly, i don't think many hackers are even a bit threatened by this... Personally - i think this would be easy to work around

Nice clean discussion...considering the ethical inquiries regarding Pirating...

I have always admitted that I was once a Pirate...the only time I ever (and I MEAN EVER) use a pirate's logic to prove a point is in the business of Video Games and returns...

This is where pirating really hit with its "environmental" hazards. Gone are the days of buying a video game and expect to be able to return it for a refund...same goes for PC software. I have no right to complain about this issue as I (in a very minuscule way) contributed to the problem but I can at least see where the flawed logic is coming from.

That been said...I can tell you from personal experience (deep in the underground web) that this will cause no falter to pirating on Windows...it is merely an obstacle on the well beaten path.
