Will be interesting to see what will happen if you try to uninstall after you get a false positive , (of course none of our members here would get a real failure because they are running a pirate copy )

Is this the system protection service?
I don't know why but it annoys the hell out of me that I can't disable that service.
I think it makes me feel as though I am not in complete control of my own computer. Especially when it starts up and uses my, not microsofts, hardware to check my own software is activated.
My software is legitimate and activated, but every now and then just after booting a message will appear saying the software is not activated. The message will disappear in a second or two but whats that all about?

Rant over.

it should not, the keys are the same for upgrade and retail. the only difference is the dvd itself, so there should be no problem

This is a possibility, although as, if i recall correctly, the source for this particular workaround came from Microsoft in a blog post, it is not a certainty.

i beleive it was Microsoft who made it public due to the buggyness of the upgrade route. plus %90 of people buying the disks already had an upgradeable version of windows (xp included) so either way it was not like they were loosing much in the long run.

I have this plugin for Firefox (Ver: 7.1.7600.16395) enabled, but can't seem to find any information about what it does, or required, or even if it is genuine. I searched Microsoft for the answer to no avail. Can anyone shed a light on this?
