How would there be no way to get it?

How did you afford a computer if you can't afford an OS to run on it?

If I couldn't afford to buy photoshop I'd buy Photoshop Elemets, if I couldn't afford that I'd use GIMP. If I couldn't afford Windows, I'd use Linux.

There is NO EXCUSE for pirating. It's just "Gimmie Gimmie, mine mine, everything not nailed down deserves to me mine". I wouldn'd half mind if people that pirate would just ADMIT that they were doing wrong, but trying to justify it is generally pretty childish and lame.

I particularly disllike pirates because it's THEIR FAULT that *I* have to put up with hokey and broken anti-pirate mechanisms

I agree with most of the above post.. this sounds like a red herring. I cannot understand why a person who knows they paid for the Win 7 software, would think they really need to run this on their system. Most of us got our copies from large retail outlets like best buy.

If a person knows they got an illegal copy from the internet, they will refuse to install the software also. Microsoft makes this really silly when they tell the whole world about this update. They should sneak it into other updates so they will catch the illegal user unawares.

I would assume like in the past, a detection of a failed validation would trigger a either a halt of the system, or default to a 30 day trial with options to purchase the software and make it legal. But then the user can uninstall the update and re apply the hack? Why would they allow this?

If it were just a matter of trying to protect illegal users from virus's and malware without any penalties, Microsoft would not do it in the guise of an activation update. They would simply make a statement saying that illegal software may contain virus's and offer a virus checker.

But what if they are not really trying to catch these people...which would be silly because it would send a message to pirates that they can get away with stealing.

Something is so fishy about this to me, I believe the update must do something Microsoft is not telling us about. Perhaps they want a way to track how many pirated copies are being used, or the hopes of finding new ways of thwarting the illegal hacks. Either way, this just makes no sense, because only the legit users might install it.

Also, one day React OS might grow up and take hold. When that happens No one will need to buy or pirate Windows. They could just use React OS for their operating system and run any Windows program they want.

If you don't know, React OS is a free operating system being developed from the ground up to be a clone of sorts of windows XP and compatible with windows software but uses a different file system. It is out now, but it is in it's early stages. Still, its a great model that is working and proves what can be done.

Why are they trying to emulate Windows XP? XP is a fugly and almost unusable OS. I would be interested only if they start to develop a clone of Windows 7.

The hackers are sweating bullets now I bet....
    NOT

the hackers will simply pick this lock just like they do every lock. there is no lock that cannot be picked.

But sure all the hackers will do is not install the download, Why would MS tell them that
they were going to send out this update, makes no sense.
because it is free advertising for microsoft. do you really think ms really cares about the 1% or less that pirate the os, NO. just like with the record and movie industries it is more about free advertising, and gullible people fall for it.

I wonder where this 1% figure comes from. BSA (Business Software Alliance) piracy rate statistics shows it's a lot more:
