You don't need 4 gig computers for 64-bit... I got a 64-bit Win7 running on a Pentium 4 with 1gb of ram and it's running faster than XP :)
As for the Dell issue, never got one and after reading all this I'll probably never get one
At work we usually buy Acer laptops (usually limited in added software) and HP/Fujitsu workstations (also very very limited). So far most work I ever had to do to remove the extra software I didn't need was clicking my mouse about 4-6 times :)

the alt/mac button is alot harder to get used to than i thought though i say i do love a mac's shutdown which is near instaneous on my machine (i really do hope 7 or 8 catches on this one...

the startup still is won by 7 (enabled autologin as mac autologins which is a security concern" and 7 won from boot to desktop)
7 uses more ram but its snappier than mac...
for me every os has its ups and downs and no OS is by all means perfect (although OEM's do make MS look worse in that regard)
which means i try to make as unbiased decisions as much as i can...:)
he means have 64-bit as the norm (as the default option)
it would actually shock me for if they made such a bold move
and it would send a clear message to the PC industry that 32 is slowly dying away...
(and i mean very slowly...)

it must be one of them extreme editions as i dont remember any other chips having EMT64 support..
if not i would have bought 2 gb of ram and put the Server 2008 R2 in my Desktop (which now i dont have in my lappy..
but it was fun having a datacenter licence and playing around with server roles and picking what you want in your computer..:))

Hi all
Also PLEASE MICROSOFT Do not allow any OEM to ship W7 on their machines UNLESS a copy of the MICROSOFT (OEM packaged version is also is OK so long as it is the W7 install disk licensed by the OEM) INSTALL W7 DISK.
The built in "hidden" partition backups or the image recovery disks are NO GOOD if you need to get rid of all the initial adware / crapware etc as a recovery (when it works) will re-install all this stuff again.
I don't see why you should have to buy a retail copy of the OS if your machine has W7 already installed. It's already licensed so you should have the W7 disc BY RIGHT.
HP are usually (or used to be) OK on this but there are loads of other companies including Dell who don't give you an OS install disc - especially on laptops.

Well, that's true, that you can run the x64 on a 1 GB system, but the x86 version will be faster. The overhead required by x64 means that you reach a performance sweet spot at about 3 GB. That's why I have x86 on my 2 GB lappy. I am working on getting a new lappy at work that has 4 GB RAM, and that one will be getting the x64 version if there are no incompatibilities with work related software.You don't need 4 gig computers for 64-bit... I love my son's Studio 15, a very nicely built lappy. It really isn't that hard to go the the control panel->programs and start removing the crapware. Like I said above, the Decrapifier software somewhat automates the software removal.
