HDMI and Windows PCs

I remember those! In fact, I still have those videos ... I copied them from my Windows 95 install CD (which I still have) to my current hard drive simply because I like them so much (and I guess for nostalgic reasons, too). One was a Weezer video, and the other was a song called "Good Times, Bad Times."

I think that was right around the time when we started to see big changes in the PC. More and more we were discovering that it was turning into an extremely powerful multimedia device with vast potential and possibilities, not just for number crunching and writing letters.

I'd say that 7 is now built for entertainment first, and business, well of course . . . if you get around to it.

Yep. The 1080p is really amazing with HDMI.....IMO. I love the Blu-ray version of the new Star Trek on my monitor......

I recently bought an HP 27" 1080p and rented Cars on blu ray the next night; the details you see like the metallic paint on Lightning's car after he gets repainted I had not seen before. The entire movie looked beautiful.

I too remember those videos on the Win 95 disc; they were pretty cool for the time. LOL, Weezer and Happy Days. That disc is still in a box somewhere in the basement.

On the computer as a multimedia device, it was especially when you could get TV out on your video card and start connecting to other devices. When Win 98 came out I built this box (still use the same case) with TV out for games, and the next year installed a DVD player to watch those through the TV out. Back then Blockbuster had only a small DVD section but on any Friday or Saturday night I usually had the section to myself, most everyone else still using VHS. The downside was waiting for the DVD titles to come out.

I hook up my laptop via HDMI to my nice 25" 1080p lcd and it makes it so easy and painless.

Also looks a heck of a lot better then VGA and is a smaller connection then DVI. HDMI is such a great invention :)

I think a Blu-ray drive might be the next addition/upgrade to my rig. I have the proper hardware, so it's ready for it. The new Star Trek movie would probably be the perfect way to start using the new drive.

My family signed up with Dish Network a while back, and we have a Samsung Blu-ray player and LCD in the living room, so that combined with the fact that prices have come way down leads me to think that there's no reason I shouldn't take the plunge.

(So far the only Blu-ray title we have is something called "Planet Earth," or something like that, which my dad got for Christmas. We need to start taking advantage of this technology.)
