    Does Win7 Solve SATA headaches?

    7077 installs a little slower than build 7057. However, the 7057 I downloaded had desktop.ini errors.
    Like 7077 it creates a 100 MB bootable partition called System Reserv -0. If this partition is removed then Windows 7 does not boot.

    I find it is very much like Vista except it runs faster and has the option to upgrade. Like Vista, an image of Win7 can be deployed on any PC thanks to mergeide.zip. However, one must restore an extra partition, the system reserv -0.

    I stopped many services including security centre, Windows Firewall and System restore.

    I am curious to know if this OS will solve the headaches associated with the installation of Windows on SATA HD or on MBs with SATA drivers NOT present in the Windows.

    If it does not then Microsoft needs better testers!

    One should test Win7 by installing it on a recent Acer desktop or laptop. These PCs can be quite a headache.

    What's the secret to preventing Acer MBs from changing the boot partition 0?

    I would assume you'd load those drivers during the install phase as with Vista. The cool thing about Vista/7 vs. XP in this case is that XP would only allow loading drivers from floppy (remember them?) whereas Vista/7 allow loading from a USB key for example.

    Why is there no standard SATA hardware driver for Windows incorporated into the Windows installation disk?

    Not sure what you mean by that. You use something like Ghost to install? I'm guessing you DO mean that you don't go through the standard install process

    I beg to differ. I'm using an ABit AB9-Pro with 4 drives hooked up as RAID 5 on the Intel ICH8R SATA controller. Both Vista AND Windows 7 have and do install without any additional drivers. This MUST mean that Vista/7 already have those drivers built in.

    All I'm saying is that maybe your SATA controller is not mainstream or is too new for Vista, and possibly Windows 7.

    You could always try slipstreaming the drivers into the ISO. I had to do that to get XP to install on the same system mentioned above.

Is anyone else having problems installing Windows Live components on these builds? Anytime I try to do an install, I get a "can't access the internet" message. If I install via a standalone installer, the program (MSN Live Messenger) works fine.
