A draft of the ACTA treaty, leaked overnight by parties within the European Union, has revealed that Europeans, Australia and New Zealand plans to be a party to stricter global requirements on ISPs with regards to copyright law.
The draft also provides rights holders the power to demand ISPs hand over the names and details of customers suspected of infringing copyright over the network.

Let's force all the isps go after copyright infringer's whilst leaving the paedophiles rings well alone hey, I mean there is no money to be made from them is there.
It's a sad state of affairs when all the focus is on protecting the pockets of the already fat cats.

I think we knew or least had an idea this just might happen. We have seen Pirate Bay, and Mininova, come down. It looks as if Canada's ISO Hunt is next on the blocks. Whether, we think it is unfair is not the issue; the issue is that there are copyright laws in almost every country, and these laws are there to protect those who put a great deal of time and money into a project. The effort may be a song, a book, an invention, or just a toy. Albeit it took someone time to put it together, hence, they should be protected from individuals who would steal that idea.
No matter how you word it, and attempt to make it right stealing someone else's intellectual work is wrong.

Copyright infringement has been going on for as long as material has been produced. Is it any different to recording tv shows off the television? Is it any different from recording the chart hits off the radio when you were a kid? Absolutely not.
This is not about protecting the artists and their work this is about lining the wallets of the people the are signed too. Most of the time the artist doesn't even see a penny of what they recoup from their bullying tactics and more often than not don't even know that their name is being used in this campaign to target vulnerable people.
So is it ok to destroy someone life with fines of millions of pounds/dollars for the download of a single movie/film that is not worth the price we pay for them?
I agree the artist needs to be paid but it the cooperations behind these artist that are the issue here.
By the way the pirate bay is still up and running and not down.
The legal priorities in this crazy world in which we live are broken. They allow the banks to pillage our assets with no recriminations, major humanitarian injustices throughout the world go ignored, billions of our taxes poured with gay abandon onto the black hole of war, millions crying for food and clean water...yet corporate power and legislation get stronger still....we're doomed.
Yet you get ordinary people still backing them like they are the good guys in all this.
Like I said it's not about the artists but the cooperate greed and monopoly they want on discs.

It won't stop now. Far from it. There will always ALWAYS be pirates, DVD rippers, cam vids, etc. Only the way of doing it will change. If BitTorrent is going down, another way is gonna rise. to be fair... their not going to catch anyone who knows what their doing, it will be some 80 year old granny who's downloaded something for her grandson, or something like that, anyone who pirates properly can probably suggest a dozen way of not getting caught, (hell, i dont pirate and i can think of 5)
As I said, thieves will always find a way to prove they are right, and no better what everyone else is wrong. They will attempt to prove themselves to be nice people by finding a way to lie their way out of a situation regardless of how wrong it is.
