By calling it piracy, what they're saying is illegal downloading is just as bad as armed robbery and murder at sea.. Can this whole thing get a little more ridiculous?

Some of the most hardcore anti-piracy advocates I know are pirates turned coders, after they realize how much work they have to do to protect their intellectual property. A violent soccer hooligan (a big issue in Europe) joins the victims group and starts helping other victims after he's himself really bad beaten. We humans have an interesting ability to have and accept an affair when in partnership, until our partner is get caught doing the same, after what we start detesting his / her infidelity.

Really interesting in all of this is how we tend to think we have rights the others don't. Only one example: How often have I seen or heard when a graphics guru working with an unauthorized copy of whatever application to create nice graphics, goes berserk when somebody is using his pics unauthorized?

Not a very good metaphor. Stealing a hamburger from McDonald's is a criminal act but not even close as bad as murder or armed robbery. But it's still criminal activity.

Then they shouldn't call it piracy.

James Murdoch: illegal downloading no different from stealing a handbag

News Corporation Europe and Asia chief calls for tough line on piracy, adding: 'They're not crazy kids. No. Punish them'

James Murdoch today called on governments to get tough on illegal downloading, which he said was no different from "going into a store and stealing Pringles or a handbag".

Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive of News Corporation's European and Asian operations, was joined in calling for tougher piracy measures at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit today by other media executives including Ari Emanuel, co-chief executive of William Morris Endeavor, the biggest Hollywood talent agency.

That is incredible naive. But if you insist, let's stop calling it software piracy, and start calling it stealing. I'm OK with that.

IMO...I think that everything is overly priced. I do not agree with the prices that the pay/ charge for a movie/game. Even lets throw this into the mix the price a professional sports player gets paid in comparison to a heart surgeon. They are overly paid for said product, why is it that a pro sports player in the U.S. can get 20 million dollars for a 5 year contract and a heart surgeon will make less than half of that for saving a life? It is ridiculous and unfounded and instead of going to the game for $200 you can watch it in a local tavern for free. Is this a form of piracy?.
Reason 1 for piracy...why purchase a cd for all the music that is put on the cd when they as a group are only a 1 hit wonder and only have 1 good song on the entire cd and the producers know this? You have to purchase all 10 or so songs and be stuck with a lot of junk that you did not want...but also if you use something like I**** and purchase one said song...you have troubles placing what you purchased on your purchased item(mp3) player. There are a lot of issues I could get into and everyone knows them as well as I do. So like stated earlier why go and recruit the governments to do something about the self inflicted wounds that they brought upon themselves? I could bring up government backing but we all know that is illegal and still nothing done about it in today's political stand point!

It's all about POLITICAL CORRUPTION and who is willing to pay for it in today's society.
