I've heard it from a very good authority (a friend of a neighbour of a sister of a priest of a garbage man who collects garbage from someone who knows someone else who is the mechanic of someone who knows how to spell Microsoft) that the RC will in fact include a revolutionary new UI.
    ....
LOL. aren't you that new guy who just had an operation and is heavily medicated.

Funny you should say that. This time next week (it is currently 12:43pm on Wednesday afternoon here in New Zealand) I WILL be highly medicated after having my tonsils out. So close my friend.

There is all sorts of weird stuff in my head anyway. Sometimes it just has to get out. I'll apologise now...

I hear you on that one. The same went for the public day for the 7000 beta release back in January. You had to wait until everything came to life then on the actual download pages seen through the 7 home page link as well as on Technet.

That brings up the 7 home page there as a place as well to look for any announcements for the public release in late May. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/

While browsing the Q&A section provided for general questions one MVP indicated MS hasn't made any definite anouncement on the RC but it seems the rumored date found on response was pointing at the 5/9/2009 date while the conference is set for the 5th. This is why I've been cautioning about anticipation about any one date in particular prior to an actual MS confirmation.

Another Q&A session saw this reply from an unspecified MS source there.

"The RC release will be available at least through June 2009.

"The Windows 7 RC will also expire on a different date than the beta,
according to Microsoft. While the beta came with an expiration date of
    Aug. 1, 2009, the RC won't expire until June 1, 2010."

Keep thinking happy thoughts and it will get here soon!

Seriously though, this doesn't sound good. they have been making good progress and other deadlines...not they are missing announced deadlines...

    Sounds like Vista, doesn't it?

No need to apologize. Your post was humorous. Good luck on the operation and enjoy the meds. :) There is a good chance you will have the RC leak to play with while recuperating.

Thanks mate. I was thinking that too, but not sure if I'd be up to fiddling with a new OS install while in lots of pain!

The leaked RC (assuming it will be) will be identical to the publicly released RC to Joe Public, right?

Yep, I'm staying positive and keeping my eyes crossed that RC will be announced soon. Followed by a release or leak. I wish they would get it moving because my eyes are starting to stay that way. :)

I think we can't compare this development and testing to Vista. With Vista we got several published beta versions and much more publicity about all the issues found (which kind of made Vista a legend of doom before it got out the gate). This time they are keeping closed mouthed about problems to the general public. While those that participated in the beta1 testing in general could see the issues but most of us had a favorable experience and we let everybody know it. Many have criticized the stance Sinofsky took with Win7 development and betas, and quite justly so, but he has responded very well when accused of not providing feedback. He never gave in to demands for another beta release. This is just my opinion.
