HPs Slate Device Delivers a Holistic Mobile Experience

With all the recent hype about the iPad, I enjoyed this bit about Slate, HPs small Tablet PC. HPs Slate Device Delivers a Holistic Mobile Experience
Quote:
Up to now, weve given you only tiny glimpses of the HP slate device coming out later this year. You saw it first in a video we released during CES and most recently in videos demoing its Web experience and Adobe Flash and Air support. Weve also blogged about the evolution of the slate category and our history in the space.

So far, almost everything weve shared showcases how youll consume media with the device. And by media we mean all types of digital content, whether its a story from a major news outlet or videos and photos youve shot. But we also believe that media consumption is only half of the ideal mobile experience.

Think about the last time you chatted with friends over Skype on your notebook. Or uploaded a picture from your mobile phone to Facebook or Flickr. How about the last time you viewed images or video from an SD card or a USB device. We know that you expect to be able to capture and share digital content on your mobile devices. And the HP slate device excels there.
Also of interest is Ed Botts article, Apple v. Microsoft and HP, round 2.

I wonder if we'll see another lawsuit. I doubt it, but if so, I hope Apple owns Microsoft in the end

Sorry guys

Seems to me that the Slate would fill a larger market than the iPad would...

And Matt hits the nail on the head, the reason such a lawsuit would go nowhere.

The Slate delivers NOTHING at this point as it does not exist yet....Hopefully it will materialize as presented but many other great ideas have died prior to availability.

I will be very interested in seeing this product when it finally becomes available and can be compared to the IPAD. While I would agree that this will be a more versatile device than the IPAD the interface will not be anywhere near as sophisticated as the IPAD which is what draws people to Apple products. That said however it is a good first go at this new emerging market. I don't consider the older tablet pc's to be in the same vane as the IPAD or Slate. Thin, lightweight and comfortable to use for extended periods.

Star Trek here we come.

From everything I have read and watched on the Slate I want one of these, my wife does tons of stuff that a small device like this would be great for. If it truly runs 7 she would be able to do all her hulu.com ebooks and flash games without needing to use a laptop. I would enjoy it for the times I sit and surf the web or play flash games while in bed.

If it has GPS it can turn into a really great device to go along with a simple cell phone.

I could see these replacing laptops once touch gets mastered.

The HP Slate has been reported to feature a 3 megapixel camera on its back panel and a VGA resolution web cam on the front panel, a 8.9" capacitive multi-touch screen supporting 1024600 pixel resolution with digitizer and pen support. The Slate will be powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor with 1GB DDR2 of non-user upgradeable RAM and one standard USB 2.0 port. The device will support 1080p playback powered by the Intel UMA PowerVR SGX 535 graphics chipset, and have a built-in GPS receiver

The slate and the Ipad are gonna be slow as hell compaired to even midrange laptops. For this reason alone i wont be considering either.

I have an android phone, I have a folder on my PC called music, and a folder on my phone SD called music. What I want to do is make those folders mirror each other. If I make a change on one, I want the other to mirror next time the phone is connected. Is there a way to do this?
