The thing is, most peripherals don't need anything faster than USB 2, let alone 3. You don't need that much speed to use your mouse and keyboard. Really the only stuff that requires speed are external drives.

Yes and no. Spinning disks will probably never need that kind of speed because of the physical limitations of the mechanics. But what about SSDs and other future devices.

I'm wondering if Light Peak requires CPU support to work, since it mentions that for both Intel and AMD? If so, it sounds as though they are putting the cart in front of the horse, since Intel's decision to have their CPUs support it being based on how quickly it is adopted.
