    dead Horses and stabledoors

    Hi all
With Windows 7 looking better in everyway than VISTA isn't this a classic case now of Microsoft "Flogging a dead Horse" or at least bolting the stable door long after the horse as GONE.

For those who haven't upgraded to VISTA - espcially with the XP compatability mode feature recently announced this is a 100% non issue since who'se going to go through the pain of a "double upgrade".

Wouldn't MS be better off in killing VISTA ASAP and using the resources to improve / develop further Windows 7 and other NEW products.

I'm sure VISTA now reminds most people of that great Hollywood movie "Dead Man Walking".

    VISTA R.I.P 2009

I won't miss you as will be the same with MANY MANY other users.
Even "Poor old Cinderalla XP" will outlast you.

    Cheers

Actually if you read the post the main question is since W7 is now out and will have verything VISTA has and run on more modest hardware there isn't really any point in maintaining the extra OS - it doesn't make any business sense at all.

Incidentally in the Corporate and smaller business workplaces the takeup of VISTA has been VERY VERY small outside the immediate areas like IT admin etc.

The XP compatability feature will ease the transistion for businesses to W7 directly.

There's nothing to stop you USING and LIKING the OS if you want - but it's a fact of life many many people DID have serious problems with it at introduction for all sorts of reasons that were valid at the time - these reasons are not necessariliy valid anymore but the damage has been done and you can't turn the clock back.

    Cheers

I'm another that likes Vista and has no problems with it, mainly because my machine was actually made for it and I wasn't trying to use it on an old machine.
Plus not everyone can afford to jump ship and buy another new OS as soon as it hits the street, as much as I'd like to keep up, money isn't exactly free flowing at the moment so some of us have to stick with what we have for a while longer.

Then those organisations will stay with XP for longer. Not an issue since XP will have security fixes etc etc until 2014.

What I AM saying is 4 things

    1) If you don't ALREADY have VISTA then there's now no point in doing a VISTA upgrade.

    2) Microsoft could save a LOT of money by halting new developments - put it into the same category as XP -- Functional Repairs and Security updates only -- now new development

    3) Because thay will save money allow a FREE or very very small fee for VISTA==>W7 upgraders who bought a VISTA license say in the last 6 months or so.

    4) The XP compatability feature allows companies to upgrade their hardware GRADUALLY - a few machines at a time.

    Cheers

    I'd settle for VISTA BASHING R.I.P 2009

MS have a legal obligation to support Vista. Wishing it wasn't so is just wasting a wish.
