Don't forget the whole point of this is to run really OLD legacy apps seamlessly from your Desktop. The VT feature whilst not really necessary to run 32 bit Guest VM's needs to be enabled for this application because of the "Seamless Integration" part so the Virtual PC actually has to run as a 64 Bit application in its own right.

There's nothing to stop you using other Virtual Machine software and creating your own VM's.

I would like it to be 32 bit colour as well but the 16 bit colour mode keeps the Virtual Machine requirements and overheads right down.

There's no point in running things like OFFICE / Internet explorer (although it will upgrade to IE8 via windows update) etc. on this type of VM. It's simply a "cut down" vm that will allow you to run as I said legacy apps.

Note also you won't get "Full Networking" in "Integration mode" I.e the VM won't appear in your network as a shareable machine.

However it will allow you to browse all the HOST machine's local drives and you CAN cut and paste files between your VM disk(s) and the local hard drives.

If you need more sophisticated VM's you have to use "Classical" VM software and "Roll your own" VM.

Later this weekend I'll explain how you can CREATE VM's that you can use with the FREE VMWARE PLAYER so you don't have to buy vmware workstation -- good but expensive.

However for the simple tasks I need the Compatability feature to do it does great.

    Cheers

You can also download vmware server that is free as well, this will give you all the same functionality as vmware workstation plus you can create 64bit vm's (if running on 64bit main OS). Probably like yourself Jimbo45 I am a VCP so if you want a hand in writing some tuts let me know.

    Hi there
Basically you use QEMU.EXE to create empty "Virtual Machine disk drives" in vmware format and use a configuration file to define your VM -- then you can use vmware player for your "Newly created" vm.

    I'll give details later.

Using vmware server is a bit more complex.

    Cheers

    good old qemu...
what id do is create it in Virtualbox and qemu it so it can convert it in vmdk...
but then again you can just create it in qemu so that defeats the purpose other than if you have the OS already installed in VB...
