MalwareCity.com: An e-mail invitation to an iTunes update gets iPad users’ PCs into backdoor trouble. said:
Success stories are cybercriminals’ go to sources of victims and the iPad craze couldn’t have been left out of this picture. According to some reports, Apple sold 150.000 iPads in the first 60 hours of presale availability, with almost 100.000 of these coveted devices being pre-ordered in the first 10 hours. The figures make it clear as daylight why malware creators were so keen on crashing this promising party.

The invitation to the “contagious fiesta” comes via the e-mail: an unsolicited message instructs iPad users to download on their PCs the latest version of the iTunes software as a preliminary step to an update of their iPad software.

The only worries any Apple user has is falling for social engineering, actually that is pretty across the board for most OS if you have root locked down. Except that some have a bigger target base. I see these threads as a form of social engineering as well, just buy MS, is the subtext.

Without subtext, how will people be told to think?

Lol, well it is hard to know how others perceive any data sets. I just wish that more MS users knew about locking up root. I am yet to meet anyone that is not a Geek so to speak that knows this. And when I try to explain to them the vulnerabilities, the look dumbfounded they don't understand. W7 is a pretty good OS, I am just more partial to open source, being that is where I started from.

True - but adding extra 'levels' of protection tends to frustrate the masses, hence the reason for the existing tiers of user levels (standard, admin, 'super' admin etc) with all their inherent flaws exist.

Accessibility vs vulnerability is a trade off

Somehow Apple will come out of this stronger than ever in the public eye.

"Oh it was just a hoax, MS said something about iPad users getting hit by a virus, and it wasn't ever true"

The iFollowers are iSheeples that want iAcceptance into a iSociety that craves on iConsumerism.

    Very iSad.

Nice mirroring, kind of the pot calling the kettle black eh. Since you like the I bit so much why don't you read Martin Buber's I-it I-thou.
