yes trying to do a fresh install my bios is diffrent i have to push f8 on start up this gives me the drives i wish to boot from,i pick the master dvd drive normaly i would then get the prompt to press any key to boot from cd...but in this case disk will flash thenb windows will continue to load from hard drive i know the drive is working because if i put in my other version ..i.e windows xp i get the option to press any key..looking at the files on the disc there dosn't seem to be an auto boot function just setup....

Hmm... Are you sure that you have got the boot order set correctly? There should be no need to press any key when you start up, other than to confirm that you do want to boot from the optical drive when prompted. Check the settings in your BIOS. Restart your system and press Del to enter the utility. Select the Boot tab.

(Note that the tab is shown incorrectly in the second image).
Ensure that the boot order is set as described in my previous post:

Check the boot order in your BIOS - I have mine set to boot firstly from floppy, then optical and finally HDD.
When you have done that, press F10 to save changes and exit. Alternatively, press Esc to return to the main menu and then select the Exit tab.

What I do here is simply leave the hard drive set as first in the bios and use the F8 key when booting from the dvd burner in order to see all setup files copied over. Then on the first restart you are already set to see the installation continue from there.

The one problem often seen when not being able to boot from the dvd burner is that it's a sata type while the old ide optical boots automatically. I end up shutting the system off with the disk in the drive, wait a minute, and then power it up and press the F8 key again to see the boot from the disk take place. Every so often the drive can't be booted from where this seems to solve the temporary problem.

    Hello again Cncmasterw.

I'm very pleased you've found a solution, thanks for keeping us posted.

Just remember that the RC will start timing out in March, you'll need an OS to take its place; hopefully 7 will be available for purchase by then.

if you are using a direct download then no (unless you are using a Download manager) but if you are using the Microsoft File Manager then yes you pause and re initiate the download where you left from..
