Oops! I just clicked on the Start button and found that the Shutdown button has a sheild mark, waiting for me to restart the computer to install updates. That was the only reason MSE could not install. :)

    Hi all
I've ben telling people for AGES now that there really isn't ANY point in ever paying for AV software for individual computers -- corporate LAN's are another issue however and protecting those is an issue which probably needs a serious alternative and isn't related to the issue raised by the OP.

I've been using MS forefront client security (essentially a similar offering to MSE with the same AV detection engine etc.) for ages now -- minimal resources, and seems to do the job just fine.

    Why bother with anything else.

And to Dinesh -- I know that as you do some work with computer security you will have some vested interest in keeping the discussion alive as otherwise if there were only one serious product available you wouldn't have too much to do -- but PLEASE DON'T SAY THAT MSE IS A RESOURCE HOG -- if it is then your computer obviously has other issues to deal with.

You might HATE the product for all sorts of reasons some of which could be perfectly valid - but to criticize it for being a major consumption of resources suggests to me that there might be another agenda there.

I'm not having a go at you but you do need to back up some statements such as "heavy CPU usage" with some sensible data.

Quote from a previous post of yours in this thread.

Well after a lot of testing, I removed MSE. It causes CPU spikes and takes up alot of RAM.

    ???????????? !!!!!!
