Microsoft Security Essentials Finds New Malware But Avoids False Posit

+1 for MSE. Been using it since it came out and zero problems so far.:)
It has kept my computer protected so far. The only problem I've had was a PEBKAC one, and nothing to do with virus/malware stuff. So I'm happy with MSE.

Shawn,
You will probably find the comparative performance of Avast Home and MSE given in the article interesting.
Interesting indeed. It's a shame that Avast let themselves drop that far down the list.

arfer,
It's not a bug. I suggest you go to the site they recommend. Many people have purchased what they thought was a legal copy of Windows.
sorry but i beg to differ i purchased my xp and win 7 from a well known chain store here in the uk and cant see them selling bad copies of microsoft windows
and mse was downloaded direct from microsoft site too

You never know. What you thought was legit may not be legit at all. I have never heard anyone having this "bug" before and it's much more likely that you're a victim of software counterfeiting.

I tried MSE, and found it to be totally ineffective against the most common of the AV scams which pop up on some pages telling you your computer is infected. You'd think most people would have enough sense to think that whatever antivirus they happen to be running at the time couldn't be so useless as to allow dozens of viruses into your system that a random website allegedly finds in a matter of seconds, but I can't tell you how many people I know who've been suckered into downloading "security tool" or "antivirus pro" or whatever it's being called this week

I like MSE over Avast Home (Free)...
I use both with no problem. :)
Me too.

I have several friends whom have bought copies of Windows 7 from MS themselves and had that damn 'Your copy of Windows is not genuine' error pop up. Its definitely a bug in the counterfeit detection program.

In that case, I stand corrected.

Klaw,
You are not wrong.
Reputable stores have, innocently, sold counterfeit copies of Windows.
anyone who thinks that MS has incorrectly rejected their version should contact Microsoft. They will be very helpful.

i stand by my first statement its a bug in microsoft essentials
