Windows Live Essentials Beta due for release
-
I keep getting
"Windows Live Essentials has stopped working"
Every time I run it, doesn't look like it's working on my machine at the moment, although I did install the BETA a few months ago; it wasn't fantastic. The only improvement IMO with Messenger is the new tabbed conversations. Emoticons have been changed (poor ones now) and your MSN name could not be changed. Whether that has altered in this version I don't know.

I uninstalled program and re-installed and now it seems to work fine. I think the problem was I installed it over the original.

You get the whole download indeed, but you get to select and actually install only the parts you want midway through the process. Also, the Windows Live Beta solves an annoying problem in the old Windows Live Mail - the inability to disable emoticons, where you typed <403(b)> and got <403BeerMug>. Just downloaded and installed the Beta and, per advice from the Windows Live Mail team, then went Alt+F, Options, Mail, Compose Tab and unchecked emoticons. It works! Now I can compose at home, quote legal citations, and not have to drop $280 for a copy of Office with Outlook. Oh, and there's a Beta 2 supposed to be available 08/17/10.
