Microsoft's Ballmer: Windows 7 slates are coming this year

    Posted: 12 Jul 2010
Microsoft isn’t going to sit idly by and let slates from Apple and various Android backers run away with this market.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told the 14,000 partners during his July 12 keynote at the Worldwide Partner Conference to expect new Windows 7 slates before the end of this year.
Microsoft and its existing PC partners, including Asus, Dell, Samsung, Toshiba and Sony, will all be fielding Windows 7 slates in the coming months, Ballmer said. These slates will be available at a variety of price points and in a variety of form factors — with keyboards, touch only, dockable, able to handle digital ink, etc.

I don't; but then I am not the typical consumer.

PS. Anyone from Microsoft seeing this. If you actually call it the "Winpad" I expect royalties

    Still better than the iPad.

I would like to try these out, but I don't know how useful they would be for me, except as a gadget.

    I don't. Would I like a netbook to supplement my desktop? Yes....but I don't need a pad/slate/tablet thingie.

I am looking forward to the WinPads coming in the next few months. I'm particularly interested in how ASUS will be doing this. Right now I have a W7 netbook convertible with a relatively high-res single touch screen that I enjoy using for web surfing and light duty general computing while lounging on the couch with it propped up on my knee. What's wrong with it is its relatively heavy weight and relative bulk compared to what I expect from these new WinPads. Also the battery life, while fine for me, is relatively short.

    Bring it on . . . .

    Bye.

I think it is possible they will make something similar but with the Palm OS, now that they own it.
