Why don't people EVER give PROPER info for this stuff

1) If MS knows that these are "Infected" - give the hashes for the "Infected" builds -- we've all got the hashes for the Official builds so it's easy to check.

2) Say WHAT BUILDS are infected. Microsoft has been burying its head like an Osterich in the sand even refusing to ACKNOWLEGE any builds other than the BETA 7000 and the official 7100 EVEN EXIST.

3) If this stuff has a botnet / trojan in it publish a method of detection -- some people will ALWAYS use stuff from "dubious" sources -- and in doing so can transmit stuff to software obtained Legitimately.
By just saying certain downloads might contain a Botnet etc without publishing methods of detection etc is just being PLAIN IRRESPONSIBLE.

Information such as saying "XXXX" might contain a virus / malware etc doesn't actually help ANYBODY and merely re-inforces the perception that they are just scaremongering.

If your build matches the Official one it WON'T contain anything it shouldn't.

Of course with the Official RC being easily (and quickly) available it really doesn't make any sense to download it from a torrent -- but that is a TOTALLY different issue.

Cheers

Agreed but a good 70% of general users that hit warez/torrent sites haven't got a clue. They see premium goods for free and jump into the deep end without arm bands.

That's where the saying 'too good to be true' comes into play.

conspiracy theory

scare tactics to ween ppl off of torrent/warez/leaks/etc

if not, then this is doing MS (and others) a big favor for them " down the road"

furthermore, this is a low down shame.... kinda like kiddie-hack cheating. Where's the skills to get past a beta OS without any protection? It would impress me more if this wasnt the case. Give me a week with a 12yr old and a couple cases of Mt. Dew, by then he could learn how to attach something to the setup.exe, and maybe a little more by then after a few trial and errors. I can see why MS is reluctant to release any code atm.

Its not a theory, its fact.

Hackers and phishers will take full advantage of new/wanted software simply as they know it will be downloaded lots in the short term.

Even most warez/torrent sites warn about this kind of activity.

yes, am fully aware of this. I merely made the statement in fun... shoulda included the sarc smiley along with the sticking out my tongue smiley. I've been around for quite awhile, seen the same dog and pony show many times. I understand this, trust me

I've posted this before -- but as a reminder

If you get really desperate try this NEW version of W7 -- you don't need ANY AV software either or even bother with such mundane things like keeping Online Bank passwords safe -- this version will store this stuff everywhere on the Internet so you will always be able to retrieve your data from any computer on the planet at any time -- The worlds FIRST UNIVERSAL OS.

Enjoy

Cheers

You mean no more pointing at this av being better then the next? Glad someone brought that up! Will Windows 7 Overcome Anti-Virus Fear and Loathing?

So you're quick to insult torrent users, but even quicker to try and get your hands on non-officially released builds?
