I thought about that a bit before doing it. Considering my mom doesn't visit hardly any websites, never downloads anything and the computer will be on standby 90% of the time, I'd say she is safer than most already. I think its better than nothing at any rate. Even the first MSE beta from over a year ago never failed me, and I worked it pretty hard . Don't think I'm ignoring your advice. I just spent half an hour debating whether or not to go uninstall it and install the regular version because of what you said.

On a different note. I just noticed the option about only running the scheduled scan when the computer was on and not is use. I know this was also present in the original, but never thought about it much. I decided to turn that off. I care more about the scan running then my computer being fast.
If it crashes her computer and deletes all of her data, you would think twice. Beta is beta for a reason.
lmfao why would a BETA AV do that... even if its beta ... its seriously impossible LOL!

anyway cant wait for final release :)

does anyone know why the original mse turned off the firewall, and the beta gives you the option to turn the firewall back on?

I'm not sure if it did or not. Some people say it did, some people say it didn't. My guess would be that it is just letting you know that you can control all of your security needs via MSE. After all a firewalll is essential.

I don't think MSE turned off the firewall. It does disable the windows defender that is installed with windows 7, it has it's own version (or equivalent to) built in.

Anyone know how close this is to being released as non beta?
Just a guess but I'd say 90 days or less. Original Morro beta came out in June 09 and public release as Security Essentials was late Sept 09 if I remember correctly. If I'm wrong I'm sure other forum contributors will correct me.

Just discovered the the new Microsoft Security Essentials beta will work on Windows Home Server and the new 'Vail' home server.
Just download the correct version, 32 bit for the older version or 64 bit for the new Vail beta. runs fine on my WHS v1.

This is a quote from a Microsoft e-mail I just recieved that might interest you.

Notice to Windows® Home Server customers: Microsoft Security Essentials Beta is not supported on Windows Home Server (WHS). Beta testers who have installed Microsoft Security Essentials Beta on WHS should consider uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials Beta to avoid potential incompatibility problems. Those who plan to beta test Microsoft Security Essentials Beta unsupported on WHS should wait until the next Windows Home Server update rollup currently scheduled to occur on or about September 1, 2010
Thanks again for participating in the Microsoft Security Essentials Beta.
    Best regards,
