Any particular reason you are going with the "green" drive...versus a Blue or Black version of the Western Digital drives. The green spins at 5,400 and is for storage......it's not ideal for running an OS.

I chose it because it was a one week offer (descent price) and is only for storage, sorry I forgot to mention I have an 80GB IDE Drive laid aside for the operating system and my programs

I personally would get a bigger HDD for my OS and would make sure that it is SATA (But hey thats me).

Don't reuse an older, IDE, crappy hard drive for your operating system. IN fact, I'd say you would be better using the Caviar Green over using an old 80GB IDE drive.

Here is a good thread on this very subject;

Build is looking solid IMO.

But I would agree about the HD, you really do not want to run a OS off a Green Drive.

Perhaps try and find at least Blue Edition or Black Edition WD.

In fact, in my personal opinion, one of the best HDs out there is the 640GB WD.
Like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=wd%206400aaks

These are just excellent drives.

Theres also the Black Editions:

Although there are plenty of other good choices, this is just one of my favorites.

I also agree with Sygnus on the point of the IDE.
If you install Windows to it, you will be hurting yourself more than helping.

In fact, I do not think Id use it at all, except maybe as a storage for some backups.

Look at this way.
You have a nice build coming together.

Worst case scenario, you get a slightly smaller, faster HD to install Windows on now. (such as the one I suggested for example)

Later down the line when you need more room, and have extra money to spend, adding more storage space is a simple matter of plug and play.

If you install to the IDE drive, it will be much more trouble to move to a better drive later.
Just something to consider.

lol unfortunately I clicked the order button before the HDD problem arose in this thread however - in my dying laptop I do have a 2.5" Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB - would that suffice as a host to my OS?

simpod,
Don't fret over the 5400 rpm drive, with the 64mb of cache it will be fine and when your finances recouperate then look for a SSD and "forget about it"......my best New Jersey ! lol.

Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 on to Build 7601?
Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 to Build 7601? An Icon Pack was saying install on to 7600 only and after I checked my regedit, I learned that I have 7601 (Probably SP1, I don't know). Would I have any problems if I install the icon pack? Thanks.
