yeah, it does seem confusing why they'd do that. either they know something we dont or they planned on this as a good but not as supported test for the second generation :/

Could wait until Q3 when the new socket2011 is released, supposed to have quad channel memory, and will replace the socket1366. Should be a powerful setup based on whats come from sandybridge so far.
I'm sorry, but I looked at how much there was to read, and decided to post after about 2 pages. I'm not going to tell you what you may have already heard but here's what I think: I see you seek lots of RAM, now, I got 8GB and people think I'm stupid. But I got it for a good deal, and I felt that I needed it, because I in fact do run RAM intensive applications. Like people here have said, you don't even use more than 3GB in Windows usually. On my old Packard Bell, it had 3GB of 800MHz DDr2 and I used SmartRAM from a PC Cleaning Utility called 'Advanced System Care', and it worked great. Sometimes it would run, and leave under 1GB being used. It did speed up my system 'a bit', but I use Adobe After Effects, and it sucks your PC's performance right up. That's why I got 8GB.
As for the CPU, if you want a BE CPU, get an i7 970x (Or 980x or 990x, depends if you want to overclock)
Here's what I think you should prioritize (In order): SSD, Motherboard, CPU, PSU, RAM & GPU. With £2000, you won't need to worry that much. I think getting an SSD will be great instead of wasting all that money on something you won't need. I mean, I spent about £600-£700 on my system (Excluding CPU, CD-ROM and a hard drive) and I'm having a blast
New gen i7 with the 2k+ pin socket is due end of this year I believe..quad channel ram apparently etc and undoubtedly faster than the existing one.
If you want to build a PC there is no point waiting for the next CPU/motherboard/Graphics etc or you simply won't build anything..no matter what you build now is obsolete tomorrow....
