Windows 7: New build

Don't agonize quite so much over this. They are both good boards and will serve you well. With the Sabertooth you are only talking about a $7 fan. The extreme 6 has about 11 sensors all over the board and a utility that will tell you what your MB temp is. I just think you should get what you want and if it requires another fan, it is really no big deal. The HAF X case has enough fans that all of your components should have plenty of airflow. There really is no best board. They are both good boards with slightly different features. Get the one you want and be excited about your new build.

Well said
The extreme6 has 11 sensors? WOW! Then how can I monitor those?

Also, does the Sabertooth support Hyperthreading?
If not, then I'm definitely getting the extreme.

None of the descriptions I read say the sabertooth support hyperthreading, but I'm sure it does. It says it supports the i7 which should mean it would have to.

Both Asus and Asrock have their overclocking utilities that will tell you most of the info you need. Here is the ATXU utility from Asrock but Asus has something similar.

I know you are not buying from here, but these are links to both boards. Click on the feedback tab and read the reviews of people who have bought and used them. Most of the are fairlt tech savvy.
Sabertooth
Extreme6

I can't tell you which one to buy. What I do with my computer and what is important to me is not the same as what is most important to you. If you use esata alot, the Sabertooth may be a little better but I'm not sold on the usefulness of the Armor. Yes, it makes it look real good but does it serve a purpose. The extreme6 has 2 extra sata ports I believe and a 3rd PCIe port, but the 3rd PCIe is X4 which can have advantages. But, you will have to choose. I base decisions a lot from reading reviews and the features that are important to me.

Just finished reading nearly all of those... it is pretty much even.
The negative thing are:
Extreme6:
· Cheapo USB controller
Sabertooth:
· Clearing CMOS is a PITA
· Usefeulness of TUF Shield
· Several DOAs and RMAs
· BIOS issues.

Thing that does draw me into the Sabertooth is the 5yr warranty.

Positives:
Extreme6
· Craploads of features
· onborad power/reset/CMOS clear
· Gold caps
· ASRock specific utils
· 16+2 power phases!!!
· Craploads of SATA ports
· DR. Debug Post Codes
Sabertooth
· Looks
·Cooling/temperature monitoring
· ESD guard (Does this really work?)
· "Military" components (for real?)
· Warranty!

Its leaning towards the extreme6

Oh one more question: My old 9800GT seems to still be working... Can I use it as a PhysX Processor?
I also plan on salvaging my DVD drive, hard drives, and some fans

I'm not sure about the ESD either. Every MB I have ever had has a function in BIOS called Spread Spectrum. From what I have read that is to enable if you are having trouble with electrostatic discharge interfearing with other functions of your computer. Sounds like the same thing to me. You have thje cooling and temp monitoring in just about all of the boards. And you are right about the 5 year warranty. But, like I told you before, that was not as important to me. In 5 years I will have probably built several computers. Lately I have been building 2 a year, for no reason really. I just like to. I just think they are both pretty good boards just with different features. I won't think you made a mistake no matter which one you buy. IMO, neither one is better, they are just different.

Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 to Build 7601? An Icon Pack was saying install on to 7600 only and after I checked my regedit, I learned that I have 7601 (Probably SP1, I don't know). Would I have any problems if I install the icon pack? Thanks.
