Simple question about case fan sizes...

+1 for a new case. BUT... I wouldn't count on a case coming with the fans you want either. Unless you're exposing your deep pockets on a case, most come with crap 2-wire fans. Not to mention the convulsion inducing flicker of useless LEDs. :)

As a side-bar: There was a very detailed test published about case fans and cooling a few years ago. Turns out that having a front intake and a back exhaust (or top and bottom) provided just a tad (a couple of degrees) less cooling than a case with six fans running flat-out and noisy as a airport tarmac. The key to case cooling is air flow not air volume. You don't want to "pressurize" the case with a lot of intake fans. A balanced cross-flow of air is the best case cooling method.

I have 5 fans in mine plus 2 more in push/pull on a rad for the w/c loop and can barely hear them. How much noise is generated depends on brand/rpm of fans.

No I didn't..I understand pressurised cases versus air flow using front intake/rear exhaust and having airflow.

Personally I have no issues with pressurised case cooling..have had cases that have the traditional front intake/rear or/and top exhaust and cases with mostly intake fans.
Much of a muchness imo...as I suggested in my first post I think the OP should consider a new case unless he wants to/is capable of modding his own.
Or he could watercool his CPU/GPU and negate the need for fans at all within reason :).

Still need to move the dead warm air created by the northbridge, southbridge, harddrives, RAM, etc.

yup thats true but he could get away with 3 fans? front=HDD, side= motherboard, exhaust.

Sure. It isn't nearly as much of a concern as getting the really hot air from the GPU and CPU out if you are water cooling.

I don't know whether he should buy a new case, or some new fans, but if he decides for new fans, and can afford some really good ones, I would recommend getting some from Noctua.
