    Asus P5b Deluxe with 8gb of DDR2 800mhz


    HI, first please don't tell me, 'you should buy a new motherboard because the one you have is old'. I know that, but right now i don't have money to change it.

    Ok, so the thing is that i have 4 2gb Kingston HyperX memory at 800mhz on my P5b Deluxe. So 8gb in total.

    At first no problem, the motherboard recognize all 8gb with the Memory remap function 'on'

    The problem is that it recognizes it has PC-5300 and not PC-6400 (as it should cause they are)


    - So is there a way in the bios to make it that my motherboard recognize them has PC-6400 (800mhz) ?

    Other thing, Even though i am sure i bought exactly the same memory, in the sandra report, the 2 pairs are different.

    - Can someone explain me the difference?

    You have two different memory module pairs with different timings. They will run at the slowest compatable speed.

    That's what i tought, so that's why it's running at PC-5300?

    Most likely. The BIOS auto-recognizes memory and negotiates speed. It's not always what the spec says, especially when ruining different modules.

    So which one is the fastest?
    The second pair is the fastest of the two pair but make sure your BIOS will support the timing at the rated voltage.

    With 4 chips, your voltage regulators will have a real tough time handling the speed. I am familiar with that board and you will be lucky to run it at 800mhz. When adding to the fact that you have 2 different types of memory... well I wish you luck. I think your best bet is to keep the memory at a lower speed and bumping up the speed of your processor.

    As you know, your MB is old, so if you do a safe overclock you will get a few more years out of it with abit more kick. The memory timings have to be lax.

    Now for Memory Voltage. Sometimes I have noticed more voltage is worse. When you have 4 chips and you increase the memory voltage you will put more load on the motherboard. I recently had a similar motherboard die due to this... It is burnt...
