New build randomly reboots after ~5 mins during OS Installation

    Hi,

I've got my new build all setup and tried to install Windows 7 Professional 64bit. (System specs posted at bottom)

    First attempt:
My computer allowed me to get to drive selection and partition formatting without a selection and then shut off and proceeded to restart itself.

    Second Attempt:
Chose my drive, un-formatted, and got to the second step of OS installation (forgot the name i know its right after 'Copying Windows Files') and then proceeded to shut off and self restart.

    Third attempt:
    Same as first attempt.

I've done more attempts but they have all ended just like my first and second attempt. I've tried taking out a few sticks of memory to check for bad memory (all tested working), installing on different drives to check for a bad drive (both tested working), updated the BIOS, lowering speed on memory, formatting both drives, and stripped my motherboard to where only the necessities were present in order to run the machine. The results have all been the same, looping random crashes and self restarts during the OS installation. Have even tried installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Same results.

I've narrowed my tests down to the PSU, mobo, and CPU. I'm taking my PSU to be tested to tomorrow to see if it is the problem. Has anyone else experienced this or know the answer? I've looked on forums about the motherboard and haven't found anything.

    Any help/advice is appreciated! Thanks!

    System Specs:
    Motherboard - ASRock P67 Fatal1ty Professional Series
    CPU - Intel i7-2600k 3.4ghz (liquid cooled, sits at 32 C)
    Memory - G.Skill Ripjaw X DDR3 1866 (4x4gb)
    Video Card - Sapphire Radeon 6970 2gb
SSD - OCZ Vertex3 120gb (OS installation drive)
HDD - Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB 6.0gb/s 7200 RPM
PSU - Corsair Enthusiast series TX750w V2 (single rail)

Wow, I would have to say that you have done a solid job of troubleshooting things on your own so far. :)

Just to try and add what I can:

    1) You mentioned testing the RAM. If you've only done the built-in BIOS RAM test I would give Memtest86 a couple of passes.

    2) You might try booting from a Live Linux disc and see if the computer runs for any length of time without error. https://www.linux.com/learn/tutorial...linux-live-cds

    3) Do you have factory made DVD media for Win 7? Lots of folks with a downloaded iso version who burned their own disc at a fast speed run into problems. If that applies to you, try burning a disc at the lowest speed your drive will allow.

As Prof said, you have done a good job troubleshooting. My only suggestion is to go into bios and set everything at optimized defaults. Recheck each step of the building process, especially the wiring. Make sure all wires are in and securely seated. You board has a Dr. Debug LED on it ,I think. If so, see what error code you are getting. Also, double check the case front panel connectors. I'm sure you have done most of these, but I am just trying to help where I can. You may also try another video card if you have one or access to one.

another thing, when your installing leave only the devices you need so 1 stick of ram graphics card ssd drive, disconnect the other devices.

this isn't common but due to it happening enough i do that as normal i've run into that exact problem with too many devices connected during an installation.

as well as trying everything prof and essenbe have mentioned.

This sounds like you have air bubble and CPU is overheating, if it wasn't for that 32C claim. I would assume everything in BIOS is at default settings, but can you check voltages in BIOS to make sure they all are within specs?
If you're running water, do you have some type of fan to cool CPU supporting chips?

Looking at your spec is quite a good rig. I think I have simple thing that might be helpful to look into.
Enter the BIOS, see about how it handle your HDD. Try to switch between "Native" (which is IDE) and AHCI. And, do install it again from the beginning (make sure you deleted the previous installation drive, have it as a scratch as Windows will need to reserve couple hundred megabyte for its system).

    Worth to try, I guess.

    Ditto

Iv had the exact same problem

So had a friend hit me up for a custom computer with a budget of $2500
I ordered all the parts through PCcase and are as follows

    Coolmaster cm690 usb3 case
    Asus m5a99x evo mb
    Amd fx-8150
    G.Skill ripjaws f3-1600c9d-16gxm ddr3 (2*8gb)
    Ocz vertex 3 240gb ssd
    Corsair hydro h80 CPU cooler
Gigabyte GeForce gtx 670 oc 2gb
    Antec HCG 900w psu
    LG ch12ls28 odd
    Win7 pro (ledgit)

Long story short, everything is detected with in the bios but the boot device LED stays solid on, I've booted it from a win7 DVD then THE COMPUTER RESTARTS?!? It's only restarted after I've booted from the DVD, sometimes when it's at the language part but always does it when its at the install part right at uncompressing files at 0%
Now I've but about 6 rigs over the years without a problem and it's really getting to me. I've tried most sata settings (IDE & AHCI), different hdds, different sata cables & ports, cleared the CMOS(removed mains power, removed the CMOS battery, moved jumper waited 5min, held down power button, waited 5min, replaced battery, moved jumper back, replace mains power) the mb memOK function gives the RAM the all clear as well as the windows memcheck after 5 passes, everything was seated with a wrist strap, I've checked the ssd with sata to USB interface and my laptop gives it the all clear (oh yeh I chech with a diff HDD) and the mb has the latest firmware, USB flashed.
This is not my computer, its for a friend, so anything would be great, my friend understands and is being great about the situation, custom builds can have problems but they can be fixed.
Again any help would be great!!!

As someone asked... is this a factory Win 7 disc? Or did you burn it yourself?
