Not nearly as low as I'm comfortable with under full load.
I just tried a 5.0Ghz run with IBT and hit 96c core temp - The word comfortable is not even in my vocabulary here.

Looks like re-seat/paste is in my future

This chip isn't as great as I first thought it was either - I'm struggling to even hit 4.8Ghz IBT stable, never mind a P95 run

    EDIT:

At least I got a 4,8ghz IBT run complete...

    Check those temps

Grabbing an Ivy Chip is now on the cards again...

I would lower the vcore volts and see if you can keep your overclock at a cooler temp.

Yeah, I wasn't happy with that amount of vcore.

I switched to manual and was playing with some different LLC / PLL settings etc to try and dial in my -offset for a P95 run. It's a huge jump in vcore for 200mhz. Not really worth it it for 24/7, but I wasn't going to take no for an answer

    (however it's currently at the 8hr mark @ 1.352v, highest 78c which is a big difference )

That offset is a bugger to get right.

Well heck, you can't even fry an egg at those temps. The way you set up IBT will have that effect without any OCing but maybe 2-3C cooler. realize the IBT stresses the CPU far beyond what is normal use.

It may not fry an egg, but it can fry a chip (hmm, eggs and chips )

Oh, and I'm no stranger to IBT :) - been using it for a few years. It's always my first quick and dirty vcore/settings test to check for vdrop, spikes, max temps etc before I settle in for a min 12hr run of P95.

If it can handle IBT's unrealistic load, then it 'should' be fine to handle softer tests like P95.

Patrick I think it is always wise not to have anything on auto when trying to reach a high overclock, but may work at 20% OC and under. I've also tried counter-intuitive measures like reducing a volt setting or two and got better results. No smoke, you're good

Your i5 may be from a bad batch or binning. I did note your core 0 had a lot lower temp too.

No offence mate, but you're teaching granny to suck eggs in this case

Manually entering all values is one of the first things I do.

It is good advice though - It's the same advice I always give (That's why I know it's good )

But without intending to sound arrogant - I know how to overclock

    But thank you.

The only difference between this rig and previous rigs of mine is that I'm using the offset function to maintain all the power saving features rather than a manual, permanently fixed voltage. It's a bit of a novelty.

One lower core temp of a 2-5c is not that uncommon, however the disparity on mine suggests the paste needs to be re-applied.

I don't think the chip is necessarily from a 'bad' batch - just average. I originally thought it was more of a golden chip though.

Not all 2500K's can even boot into Windows @ 5ghz, or are even stable at 4.8ghz - so once/if I sort out the temps I still think 5ghz is a possibility if decide to go for it.

I was originally happy and content with a 24/7 of 4.6ghz - then suddenly I wasn't. Damn curiosity

    Speaking of stable:

13hrs, temps are much more favourable - I might even leave it at 4.8ghz simply because I can.

Good enough for me. I'm going to order a pair right now. (Might even get some fans, too. )

Next time you're in Westlake, drop by and I'll buy you $18 worth of whatever you're drinking these days and we'll call it square.
