For stock voltage that's not bad. I can hit 3.58 on stock voltage. You should try for more, i bet you can do it. Just don't go above 1.3625v
I agree that's good for stock volts but even better considering it's a Xeon and those are not meant for overclocking and more designed for stability, I have friend who has one and he can't OC his at all so that's a great effort, well done

I don't do gaming - but lots of video and graphics work.

I used Gigabyte O/C software to crank the speed up to 3.2GHz (WinXP and Win7 reported 3.6GHz, CPU-Z did, too - but BIOS reported only 3.2 [400x8]). Stable as a rock!

I ran WEI before and after - and this was a surprise, AFTER O/C the CPU score dropped by .3 to 6.8. Also, Win7 felt slower - not by much, but noticeable.

I reversed O/C to stock (F7 - optimum settings in BIOS) and the WEI CPU mark slid right back up to 7.1.

As far as I can tell - in a 2D world like mine, O/C seems to be of very limited value. And in fact, could be detrimental.

    Comments?

BTW - although I'm not a gamer, I do love to tweak and am not afraid to tinker around under the hood and get dirty.

I believe you're mistaken. The Xeon E3110 is a wolfdale. EXACTLY the same as the C2D E8400. No difference. Just a different name.

Don't bother wasting cash on a 940 or 965, as they ain't worth the money. Head over to XS Forums and you will soon find that out.

Grab the 920 as its the best clocker, and best bang for buck.

i will admit they have the same architecture & as such ''should'' clock just as well as its desktop counterpart, but....

they have different VIDs.... the E3110 is a server chip designed to run 24/7 @ full load & the E8400 is a desktop chip designed for domestic use.....

I figure what good is an overclock without it being 12 hours Prime Blend stable. Notice that the max temps over the 12 hour span are also shown with real temp. I can boot up at 4.8Ghz and do a cpu-z but doesn't hardly mean it's stable now does it? I have benched at 4.7Ghz so far with no heat issues at all.

In fact the Xeon's are supposed to be higher binned so should overclock even better. But I just went with the E8600. The E8700 is on it's way also.

The higher VIDs will allow it to run better at full load, but IIRC (could be wrong) both the Xeons and the C2Ds were made with the same. The VID just varies randomly.

Very nice. I wouldn't push the voltage any higher than that though. As soon as you hit 1.5v they just start wanting more voltage all the time even when stock.

I haven't heard that, but it could be so. From what i've heard the E8700 isn't going to be much improvement over the E8600.

Yes the higher VID's tend to run much cooler than the low VID ones but it takes more voltage for the same clocks. I'am glad I have 1.25 VID it runs so cool it's rediculous. I agree,I'am running max Vcore for 24/7 use. I've seen too many of these CPU's degrade at higher Vcore's. Probably E8700 not much better than E8600 I agree also.
