I have another in another computer, but i think it is a 350w. I am using the corsair hx 750
Cpu and pins seem fine, ill see what i can do to get that other psu.
My motherboard's standby light is on, just saying. I dont know if that constitutes the psu as working or not
Another consideration can be the bios and if it's been updated for the CPU you're using. I would also double check this as well you can clear the CMOS by resetting the button if available or pulling the battery and replacing.
Things are pointing towards the PSU, have you tried calling ASUS support...I would and see if they are open and available?
make sure it isn't having contact with something that is shorting it out
Also you should have tryed to fire it up with it grounded in the case that could be why it isn't firing up I know you can do it otherwise but try putting it in the case and just put what you need on it to just get it to start up
I have a feeling it probably is ok
So many times the issue comes down to connections and PSU, I've sourced a great cheap Corsair PSU for 39.99 just to have a back up. If you need to source another PSU then look to Seasonic modular series or Corsair modular, with as clean as that mobo is you deserve a clean uncluttered case with great wire management....just saying, lol !
Duh...you mentioned you have a great Corsair unit. Yikes I'm starting to run out of ideas.....
The Sabertooth z77 is made specifically for the i7 Ivy bridge and other ivy bridge products, I think I am in the clear there.
The motherboard and everything else was originally in the case when i assembled it and tested it. It is now sitting in on the box it came in. It shouldn't need to be in the case, should it?
The hx750 is modular excluding the power cables for the motherboard
Also, I have another psu, but it does. It have an 8 pin connector for the CPU supplementary power, only a 4 pin. Should that work? I tried it and it powered the standby light in the motherboard and it when I touched the power prongs with my screwdriver, my CPU fan didn't spin up.
Double check your stand offs in the case for an extra stand off, maybe there was one that shorted the mobo on the bottom. If not then I would begin a conversation with ASUS as other than a malfunctioning CPU fan it could be a issue with the mobo.....bummer.
