    CPU Cooler - Newegg.com - Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler
Case - Newegg.com - Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case (Original case was black pearl without window newegg has discontinued it i have no idea why)
so since thats the case (no pun intended) will the cpu cooler hit the top exhaust fans on the case?

There is no way to tell if the NH-D14 will hit the top fans without a test fit. That cooler is a monster though. I was more concerned whether it would hit the side window, but it appears you might have clearance there.

    I'll ask a friend who has a NH-D14 to have a look.

thanks for asking make sure its for a Define r4 case though it looks like it wouldn't touch the fans on top fan its the fan on the side is the main concern but if i can get the case from somewhere without a window that would nice to know if the cooler hits it

According to their web site the R4 is 232mm wide. The D14 is 163mm tall. I would think it would fit. It's really impossible to tell, but I would be more concerned with the side window than the top. I have one in a HAF XM now and have had it in several cases and never had to worry about the top fan, only the side fan/window. You should also check on the height of your ram. The D14 overhangs the ram, but has 44mm of clearance for it. You can make it more by slidng the 120mm fan up slightly. That is really no problem. G Skill Ripjaws and Sniper fit fine. They are 40mm tall.

The only thing to do would be to Google the case and CPU cooler to see if anyone has attempted this. Other than this I don't think there's anyway to tell. You can try calling new egg sales or whatever?

According to the Manufacturer's web site, CPU coolers up to 170mm can be used.
